The Experience and Vision of Roman Catholic Womenpriests
Wednesday, February 10, 8 PM
Arts Room, Divinity School

Joan Houk

Roman Catholic Womenpriests reject the penalty of excommunication issued by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith on May 29, 2008 stating that the women priests and the bishops who ordain them would be excommunicated “latae sententiae.”

The Reverend Joan Clark Houk is a careful and cheerful listener to the movement of the Holy Spirit in the world and in her life. She writes, “Church law (canon 212.3) states:  “According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they (the Christian faithful) possess, they have the right and even the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful…”   It is not only OK, but at times a Catholic duty to raise questions, and this is one of those times”.

This event is co-sponsored by Anawim, The Vanderbilt Office of Women’s Concerns, the Vanderbilt Carpenter Program in Religion, Gender, and Sexualty, the Office of Religious Life, and the Society of St. Cornelius.
