Life at Gethsemani Abbey: Poetry of Thomas Merton and Paul Quenon

Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 pm

Vanderbilt Divinity School Reading Room 124

Brother Paul Quenon has been a monk of the Abbey of Gethsemani for 57 years. He received his initial training as a Novice under Thomas Merton. Originally from West Virginia, Paul has retained a love for hills, fields and woodlands. His poetry continues Merton’s lyrical celebration of community life and solitude, silent meditation and love of natural things in the monastic countryside — and above all, love of the Mystery that overshadows us all. Br. Paul has published 6 books of poetry, most recently Unquiet Vigil, Paraclete Press; The Art of Pausing, Acta Publications and Bells of the Hours, Fons Vitae. He is a cantor, a community cook and has photographic skills which are to be found in the recently published Monks Road; Gethsemani Abbey’s Journey into the 21st Century. Abbey of Gethsemani 2015.
