Vice Provost for Academic and Strategic Affairs
The Vice Provost for Academic and Strategic Affairs (VPASA) is responsible for developing, launching, and helping to institute Vanderbilt's academic strategic vision in alignment with the Academic Strategic Plan. This responsibility also include assisting with various fundraising initiatives to support related programs. As a member of the provost's leadership team, the VPASA works closely with the deans of each of the university's colleges and schools on academic matters, including strategic faculty recruitment, promotion, and retention.
As the member of the provost's team most directly responsible for faculty, the VPASA oversees the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs. This office serves as a resource to colleges, schools, and departments on programs to enhance Vanderbilt as a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive academic community. This office, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost and many partnering programs and offices, promotes the establishment of data-driven initiatives to improve faculty recruitment, develop, and retention. The Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs administrates many faculty funding initiatives derived from the Academic Strategic Plan, including Chancellor Faculty Fellows and Provost Research Studios. The Office also seeks to further faculty development through Faculty Insights, a weekly workshop sponsored jointly with the Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence.
The VPASA also provides oversight to a broad portfolio of units and offices that seek to advance Vanderbilt in alignment with the Academic Strategic Plan. These offices include the Career Center, the Health Professions Advisory Office, Pre-Law Advising, The Wond'ry, and the Vanderbilt University Press. The VPASA will also provide leadership for the newly announced Office of Immersion Resources, to be launched in fall 2017.
