Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Body, Mind & Brain Lab at Vanderbilt University.
The Body, Mind & Brain (BMB) Lab in the Department of Psychology at Vanderbilt University is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow starting May 1, 2025 to work on a NIH-funded study of personal space regulation (MH128967. Spatial Self Boundary, Interpersonal Distance and Social Impairments in Schizophrenia). We are primarily interested in elucidating mechanisms underlying bodily self-disturbances and social disconnection in schizophrenia-spectrum conditions using a variety of approaches including immersive virtual reality, social cognitive tasks, neuroimaging and psychophysiology. The primary responsibility of the position is to take the lead on studies of spatial cognition and interpersonal distance in schizophrenia, and to embark on a fMRI study of personal space regulation.
The applicant should have a PhD in clinical or cognitive psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. Ideal candidates must have a strong interest in psychosis-related conditions and neuroimaging. Some training background in cognitive experimental design, coding, virtual reality, psychological assessments, and statistics will be very helpful. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work with the lab manager to oversee the project, prepare scientific manuscripts for publication and assist in submission of research grant applications. There will be ample opportunities to develop independent research programs.
The successful applicant will join our lab and academic networks at Vanderbilt and beyond. Within Vanderbilt, we collaborate researchers in psychiatry, vision science, cognitive neuroscience, computer science and visual arts. We are also embedded in international research networks focused on hallucinations and paranoia. This an excellent opportunity for those interested in an academic career that combines clinical and cognitive research Salary will be based on the NIH postdoctoral fellow scale. The appointment has a possible duration of two years, contingent upon successful performance in the first year. The start date May 1st but is a flexible.
