RESIDENT ADVISOR (RA)
The Resident Advisor (RA) is a paraprofessional student staff member for Housing and Residential Experience within the Division of Student Affairs at Vanderbilt University. RAs assume responsibility for fostering an environment where all students feel supported in pursuing their academic and personal development. RAs work closely with Area Coordinators (ACs), Graduate Area Coordinators (GACs), Head Resident Advisors (HRAs), and Residential Faculty to cultivate residential spaces that promote community care, safety, and belonging. RAs build community by engaging in meaningful conversations with their residents and developing customized experiences and activities for their residential populations. RAs host educational and social programs, provide mentorship, and serve as a resource to students on their floors. The position requires dedication, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.
Qualifications:
- Must be a full-time, undergraduate, degree-seeking student with at least second-year student status at Vanderbilt University by the application deadline
- Must have at least one semester of living in an on-campus, residential community at Vanderbilt University
- Eligible candidates must have a cumulative 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) by the end of Spring 2025 academic semester.
- Must have a United States Bank Account for direct deposit enrollment to receive payment as required by Vanderbilt University.
- Must be in good standing according to the Vanderbilt University Student Handbook
- Maintain all qualifications throughout the appointment period
- Compliance with all aspects of the Resident Advisor Position Description
- Must be able to attend Fall RA Training during the first two weeks of August.
Head Resident Advisor (HRA)
The Head Resident Advisor (HRA) is a paraprofessional student staff member for Housing and Residential Experience within the Division of Student Affairs at Vanderbilt University. HRAs have previously served as RAs and are responsible for fulfilling all RA expectations in addition to the elevated responsibilities of the HRA role. HRAs are subject to specific expectations outlined in a staff member’s position agreement, departmental and supervisor expectations, Housing Contract and Rules & Regulations, and the University Code of Conduct. HRAs serve as departmental AmbassaDores, peer developers, community navigators, and mentors to their staff and members of their residential community. HRAs assume responsibility for fostering an environment in which all students are supported in pursuing their academic and personal development. HRAs work closely with Area Coordinators, Graduate Area Coordinators, Resident Advisors, and, in many cases, Residential College Faculty and Staff to build residential communities that promote care, safety, and belonging. HRAs cultivate community between RAs, ACs, GACs, and residents by initiating community engagement, creating and executing educational and social programming, and serving as a campus resource to the larger campus community. The HRA position requires dedication, teamwork, critical thinking, flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm.
