As artificial intelligence continues to revolutionize national security, the stakes have never been higher. From cyber warfare to autonomous defense systems, AI is reshaping the modern battlefield and the policies that protect nations. U.S. Congressman Mark Green, a decorated military veteran and chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will deliver the opening keynote on day two of the Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats, April 10 – 11, 2025 in Nashville, TN. His address will focus on AI and national security, including its global implications, cybersecurity applications, and the importance of talent in shaping the future of defense.
A Leader with a Mission
Mark Green has spent his career protecting the United States, both in combat and in Congress. A West Point graduate and former Army flight surgeon with the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), he deployed three times to Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with V Device for Valor. He notably interviewed Saddam Hussein after his capture.
Beyond the military, Green built a healthcare staffing company and founded free medical clinics. Elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 2012, he championed policies to boost economic growth, cut taxes, and support education. Now, as chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security and a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, he is leading efforts to counter cyber threats, AI-driven warfare, and protect critical infrastructure.
What’s at Stake in AI and National Security?
Artificial intelligence has transformed national security from an issue of traditional defense to a digital arms race. Chairman Green’s keynote will tackle pressing questions: How will AI influence the future of security and defense? What challenges and opportunities does it present on a global scale? Chairman Green will explore these questions while highlighting the importance of cultivating skilled professionals in AI and cybersecurity to navigate this evolving landscape.
General Paul M. Nakasone (Ret.), Founding Director of the Vanderbilt Institute of National Security, underscored the importance of Green’s insights:
“Chairman Mark Green brings a wealth of experience in national security and emerging technologies. His leadership in the fight against cyber threats and AI-driven warfare makes him uniquely positioned to address the challenges ahead. As AI continues to redefine modern conflict, Green’s insights will be instrumental in shaping policies that safeguard national interests while fostering responsible innovation.”
A Must-Attend Session for Security and Technology Experts
The accelerating integration of AI into global security demands proactive leadership and innovative strategies. Chairman Green’s keynote will offer an unfiltered look at the threats and opportunities ahead, providing attendees with a roadmap for navigating this evolving landscape. His speech will set the stage for deeper discussions on AI in warfare, the ethics of autonomous systems, and strategies to counter emerging threats.
For policymakers, defense leaders, and technology experts, this session is not to be missed. The future of AI-driven security is being written now, and Chairman Green’s keynote will be a defining moment in that conversation.
