Using a collection of various insects, spiders, and bugs, small groups of students attempt to assign them to groups of like animals by declaring their criteria and putting individuals together. They then analyze each other's groupings to ascertain similarities and problems. Eventually, the class constructs the basic classification criteria for animal species.
