Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of Vanderbilt University space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Building Maintenance Technician is part of the Facilities department at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of buildings or areas. Building Maintenance Technicians need to have a good knowledge of building skills, including HVAC, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair. These foundational skills will be reinforced and build upon with training by Plant Operations and Facilities personnel.
As a SkillBridge Fellow, your role as a Building Maintenance Technician will include training in various fields, working with maintenance technicians, plumbers, HAVC technicians, electricians, and carpenters. Some of the activities will include:
- Assisting with winterization at the Stadium
- Assisting with installation of shutoff valves on water mains for buildings
- Assisting and shadowing plumber with repair or replacement of water heaters
- Helping carpenter lay ceramic tile and grout
- Assist HAR Tech in pulling motors on equipment
- Use Volt-Ohm Meter to check voltage/ current
- Assist electrician on conduit runs and wire pulls
- use man lift/boom lift/scissor lift and single man lift/bucket truck for various repairs
- Installing drywall and mudding
- Training on how to set up and monitor personal work order query
- operate vehicle/golf cart and perform operator-level maintenance
- Training on Pro-Press to install piping valves
- Check steam pressure at PRV station in building
- Other duties related to position classification
Qualifications Required
- One to five years of relevant experience (preferred but not necessary)
- Valid driver’s license
- High School diploma
