Introduction
The Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, Astroparticle and Astrophysics laboratory (University Paris Cité) and Vanderbilt Lunar Labs Initiative (Vanderbilt University) cordially invite the scientific community to France's stunning Belle Île en Mer for the 2024 Lunar GW Workshop dedicated to the Laser Interferometer Lunar Antenna (LILA) project.
The workshop will take place at Hôtel Le Grand Large, where experts will focus on lunar geoscience, multi-messenger astrophysics, and technology development for the LILA project. This meeting is funded by Labex UnivEarth and by Vanderbilt University.
Accommodation
All event activities will take place at the hosting hotel, Hôtel Le Grand Large, in Belle Île en Mer. The workshop will start the evening of Monday, 30th, with a dinner. We will have 3 full days of meeting on October 1, 2, 3. Departure will be on Friday, October 4.
The cost of the Workshop participation is 1100€ for single occupation of room and 900€ for double occupancy of room and shall be paid before the meeting by bank transfer to IPGP. An invoice will be sent after registration. This cost covers hotel, lunch, dinner, coffee breaks and the shuttle from dock to Hotel.
Due to limited capacity at the venue, the organizers would prioritize registrations of early-career scientists (postdocs, PhDs) at the meeting.
Meeting Rationale
The goal of this workshop is to mature the science case and detector development plan for the LILA mission and its pathfinder. The discussion will seek to answer the following questions:
- What are the unique lunar science returns with LILA?
- What are the new multi-messenger astrophysics deliverables of LILA? What are the multi-band synergies of LILA with gravitational-wave detector network on earth and in space?
- Which critical LILA technologies we can demonstrate with the current generation of lunar landers?
This meeting is a follow up to the 2023 Lunar GW Workshop, which served as a focal point for the international teams involved in lunar exploration and gravitational-wave projects.
