SPEAKING ABOUT CITIES WITH STORYMAPS
This project asks students to use the website StoryMaps to present their research on a city in Mexico. Tasks include researching weather, culture, and geography, writing up their research findings as short captions, and assembling their research into an interactive map.

Project Description:
In step one, students use the attached worksheet to research an assigned Spanish-speaking city. After completing their research, in step two students find images to accompany the information from their research that they will present on their maps. I ask students to use Wikicommons so that they use high-quality images and provide authorial credit for the images that they incorporate. In step three, students use the StoryMap website to build their map. They should have between five and seven slides on their map that draw from the research that they conducted in step one. This step allows students to write about geography and culture and use technology to share their research with their peers. At this point, students may either upload their maps to the discussion board or as an optional step four, students use Quicktime or Screencast-o-matic to narrate their maps. This optional step provides students with the opportunity to practice presentational speaking.
