JLI Fellows

The James Lawson Institute is home to several academic and community centered opportunities and programs, which are committed to advancing dialogue and knowledge of nonviolent movements and transforming the next generation now.

The JLI is also committed to providing students with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of nonviolent movement strategies and teachings, conduct research to elevate communities and organizations to bring about social justice and integrate their findings into their education at Vanderbilt University.

RESEARCH FELLOWS GRANT

The purpose of The James Lawson Institute Fellows Grant is to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of nonviolent movement strategies and teachings and conduct research to bring about social justice. Ideally students will integrate their findings into their education at Vanderbilt University.

Research Fellows are required to participate in this learning model and support their cohort peers in scheduled monthly sessions, and attendance at the daylong spring retreat on April 5, 2025.

The application cycle opens September 12, 2024. The application deadline is 5:00pm CST on Wednesday, October 02, 2024.

CHANGE-MAKERS FELLOWS

The Change-Makers Fellows is a cohort of students who have interests and involvement with systemic change making organizations. The James Lawson Institute provides students with opportunities to learn about the practice of nonviolent direct action as embodied by Rev. James Lawson and his collaborators. The fellowship will aide students in acquiring principles and strategies necessary to become change agents within their communities, organizations, congregations, etc. in a sustainable nonviolent way.
