World On Wednesdays presents: “Extraordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things: Disability Programs in South Africa”Presented by: Vanderbilt Visiting Humphrey Fellow Cathy Arendse
Cathy Arendse is a 2011-2012 Humphrey Fellow from South Africa who works as an HIV/AIDS program facilitator for Metropolitan Foundation in Cape Town. She is also heavily involved in working with physically disabled children through multiple non-profit organizations such as the Western Province Sport for the Physically Disabled. Cathy welcomes her friend and colleague from South Africa Nicky Abdinor for a short visit in order to do motivational and disability awareness programs around Nashville. Nicky is a clinical Psychologist and a lecturer for Masters Students in Cape Town. Born with born with no arms and shortened legs, Nicky gained a feeling of independence through learning to drive a car. Nicky has started her own NGO, Nicky’s Drive, to help other South Africans with disabilities become independent through driving.
