Wellness Bash 2015:

Oct. 28 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center will celebrate our 26th year hosting the Wellness Bash on Oct. 28th, 2015 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Through this fun tradition the VRWC brings students and the community together and we would love for you to be a part of it!   Tables are free for departments and organizations. There is a $10 Guest Pass for non-student and non-rec center members.


Life Phase Series:

Composting & -€˜Need to Know-€™ for Successful Gardening

Join guest speaker Ryan Cooper, Irrigation Specialist for Vanderbilt University-€™s Grounds Department, as he presents composting techniques as well as ways to -€˜ready your garden-€™ for successful spring crops. Mr. Cooper is a past greenhouse manager for the research branch of the University of Maryland, speaker at master gardener state conferences, and excited to share his horticulture expertise. This event is open to the Vanderbilt community.

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 5:00 PM -€“ 6:00 PM -€“ Cooking on the Wild Side with Melinda Mahoney, BS, RDN, LDN

Vandy Cooks is calling all hunters, anglers, adventurers, and foodies to join Melinda in the kitchen for some wild game cooking! This event is for anyone who enjoys food, not just the avid outdoorsman. Everyone will leave with food preparation tips that can be applied to any type of meat. Feel free to wear camouflage and bring pictures of your trophy game!

Grab and go information provided once a week in the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center on a nutrition topic to help support our heating healthfully and can be completed in 2-3 minutes.

Friday, Oct. 9, 8:00 PM -€“ 9:00 AM -€“ Pumpkin and Oatmeal Equal Great Taste

The addition of pumpkin along with other ingredients bumps up the nutrition of oatmeal and the taste.

Walking Wednesdays Return This Fall

The VRWC-€™s group fitness coordinator, Lori Cowan, will be leading a group every Wednesday around the campus for 30 minutes this fall from Sept. 23 through Nov. 11 for Walking Wednesdays.

They meet at the Eskind Library at 11:30 am and do some quick stretches before the walk. When it rains, the group walks in the tunnels. Rain or shine, we want the Vanderbilt community to have a weekly healthy stress outlet.   The event is open to students, faculty, or staff within the Vanderbilt community.

Fall Frenzy Oct. 5-7

The roads are digital but the sweat is real

Rule the Expresso asphalt with team VRWC in the Expresso Fall Frenzy! The biggest event in college cycling is back and the winner of the knockout tournament will earn the title of Expresso Champion for 2015 and take home the most coveted trophy in all the land: The Golden Spokes! Pre-register at www.expresso.com/Account/SignUp and come ride with us starting at 11:00 pm on Oct. 5th through 11:00 pm on Oct. 7th for the qualifying round.

Boxing Clinics:

Beginner and Advanced

Learn to bob, weave, and move like a professional boxer in our professional boxing clinics. Registration is now open for beginner and advanced participants-no experience necessary and all clinics are non-contact. Registration deadline extended to Oct. 9th!

5k & Half Marathon Running Clinics

Beginner to seasoned runners are encouraged to come train for the Nashville Marathon and be taught by VRWC Fitness Associates for FREE! Training plans each week, no pre-registration needed, additional informational sessions on proper gear, and attend 10 sessions to get entered for multiple free entries into the Nashville Marathon! The clinic runs Sept.10th -€“ Oct. 29th.

Biggest Winner

This fun program is designed to help you lose weight and build the skills necessary to reach your personal health goals. The program consists of weekly group training sessions and nutrition/mind-body workshops with Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center professional staff. Must have a 30+ BMI to participate. Deadline to register is Oct. 9th!
