Rainbow ReVU 2015: Crossroads

February 10th: “Queering Race at Vanderbilt” (6:30 PM, Buttrick 306)

This event is a panel discussion looking at the intersection of race and LGBTQIA+ identities, specifically on Vanderbilt-€™s campus. The panelists hold a range of racial and queer identities and will be discussing their lived experiences. Knockout Wings will be catering. Come for greater understanding of students-€™ experiences on campus and to discuss intersectional identities.

February 11th: “Sonya Renee” (6:00 PM,  Divinity School – Reading Room)

Part of the Divinity School’s “Art, Advocacy and Action 2015” series, Sonya Renee will take part in  engaging the gendered and sexualized nature of our human bodies through Spoken Word. There will be a Spoken Word poem performance and workshop, followed by a question and answer session.

February 12th: “Janet Mock” (6:00 PM, Ingram Hall – Blair School of Music)

Part of the Divinity School’s “Art, Advocacy and Action 2015” series, Janet Mock,  New York Times bestselling author and  transgender rights activist,  will lead us in unearthing the intersections of gender and sexuality with race, class, ability, ethnicity, religion, nationality, and a myriad of other identifiers. There will be a reception, a keynote presentation (including reading from her book, Redefining Realness), a question and answer session, and a book signing (only books purchased this evening will be signed by Ms. Mock).

February 13th: “Queer Prom!” (10PM – 1AM,   208, 24th Avenue)

Free and open to people of all genders and sexualities, “Queer Prom!” is a celebration of all walks of life and we encourage self expression. Wanna wear a prom dress? Go for it. Wanna wear jeans and a t-shirt? Sounds perfect! Are you feeling like it’s more of a costume night? We love costumes! Everyone is invited to come listen to great music and celebrate each other’s existence. This is an alcohol-free event.

**This event counts toward My Vanderbilt Experience, under the Cultural Awareness category!**
