RA of the Month
As a way of recognizing the outstanding contributions of our student staff, the Office of Housing and Residential Education will recognize a select RA each month. RAs are nominated by their fellow students, peer RAs, ResEd staff members, and Residential Faculty for their contributions to their respective residential community with regard to RA responsibilities (programming, leadership, mentoring, student care, etc.) as well as contributions to the Vanderbilt and/or Nashville Community.
This Month’s Featured RA:
Alec Jotte
North House
What does being an RA mean to you?
“The RA position exists to provide unconditional support to our peers. Especially being at a school like Vanderbilt where so many people come from all over and are far from home, the academic (and frankly oftentimes just as intensely, social) stress can be overwhelming, so having even just one person here who will unconditionally support you is an incredible resource. And a lot of students will never need or want it, and that’s awesome. But I think that having residents know that someone is inherently on your side and looking out for your best interest is a goal to be sought by RAs and what it means to be one.”
Major: Biochemistry
“I am really interested in the sciences and how they all tie together; the great thing about biochemistry is that you get to study how the fields of science overlay one another and interplay with each other to create this thing that we understand as life or reality.”
Other Organizations:
Delta Tau Delta Fraternity
Director of Academic Affairs
Quotes from Alec’s nomination:
“A source of encouragement and brightness.”
“Made my freshman experience at Vanderbilt better than I ever could have imagined.”
“Willing to go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome.”
“Always willing to make himself available to anyone on the floor for any type of help.”
