McTyeire Fireside Chat
Cinema in the Time of the Anthropocene
By Jennifer Fay, Associate Professor of Film and English, and Director of the Program in Cinema & Media Arts
Monday, October 21
7-8pm
McTyeire International House, Fireside Lounge
We will talk about the relationship between climate change (including the proposed geologic epoch, the Anthropocene) and cinema. While this may seem like an unlikely conjunction of topics, we will consider the ways that film makes certain features of climate change perceptible while it also helps us to perceive our world, weather, even climate as products of unwitting and unintentional design.
This talk is based on Prof. Fay’s recent book Inhospitable World: Cinema in the Time of the Anthropocene (Oxford, 2018).
