Faculty-Led interactive Cinematic eXplorations

The Dean of Students office and Cinema & Media Arts Program in partnership with the historic Belcourt Theatre, Nashville-€™s non-profit film center in Hillsboro Village, have developed an initiative to promote faculty-student conversations centered on foreign, independent, and classic films: FLiCX, or Faculty-Led, interactive, Cinematic eXplorations. In addition to student-faculty interaction, the program fosters film literacy, intellectual curiosity, reflection, and discussion around not only film, but also issues of inclusion and diversity.

Students respond on the Anchor Link FLiCX page to an invitation to a scheduled film, thereby committing to remain through the post-screening discussion, or to being seated for a pre-screening introduction. The Dean of Students office purchase tickets for students who swipe in by the deadline indicated in confirmation email.

Following the screening, the faculty member comments on the film and encourages students and other audience members to articulate their thoughts about what they have just seen. On occasion, a filmmaker, cast member, or subject matter expert may be featured in the discussions in lieu of a faculty member.
