Dual-Professor Dinner, Philosophy & Mathematics
Tuesday, Oct 29th
5:00-7:00 pm
EBI Multipurpose Room
The applications of Mathematics range from Machine Learning to Data Protection to Financial Analysis to Quantitative Social Science Research. All STEM students as well as some social science students are required to study math, or at least, to learn how to apply math in their fields. At the same time, many of us have been taking math as the “truth” without questioning much about its origin or credibility. On Tuesday, Oct 29th, Vandy Tech & Society will host a dual-professor dinner, Philosophy & Mathematics, in the EBI Multipurpose Room from 5 to 7 pm. The event will start with Dr. Lenn Goodman (Philosophy) talking about Philosophy of Mathematics. Dr. John Rafter (Mathematics, DUS) will then respond to Dr. Goodman’s words from the perspective of a Mathematician. In the second hour, students can ask their own questions and discuss with the professors over dinner. This is also a Faculty Engagement GME event. All majors are welcome to attend. The dinner is co-sponsored by VSG and the Philosophy Department. Check out our FB event page or Anchorlink event page for more details!
