China Week’s Economics Panel will take place on February 21 (Monday) 5-6 PM, Buttrick 101. We invited Professor Peter Lorge, the associate professor of Asian Studies and History at Vanderbilt University. He will present on “The Recovery and Collapse of the Chinese Economy, 1949-1976.” The event will last one hour, including a 40-minute presentation and a 20-minute discussion session.
The Technology Panel (cohosted with VandyHacks) will take place on Feb 22st at 5-6 PM, Buttrick 101, and we have invited Professor Huang from the CS department to give a talk on “Graduate Studies as an International Student: from Application to Programs”. She will speak on the various possibilities of graduate studies for the international student community. From application to programs, she will share her perspective and answer any questions from our audience. The event will last one hour, including a 40-minute presentation and a 20-minute discussion session. We want to give everyone who is interested in applying to graduate school in CS an opportunity to learn more and ask any questions they may have.

China Week’s Politics Panel, titled “Politicization of Covid: the Politics of Covid Containment Strategies in the US and China,”(sponsored by the Public Policy Studies Department) will focus on the intersection between politics and covid policy. The panel will feature Ryan Hass of the Brookings Institute and YouTuber Cyrus Janssen, who will give expert insight into this pressing topic. The event will take place on Feb 23, 5-6 PM, at Buttrick 101. It will last one hour, including a 40-minute presentation and a 20-minute discussion session.

China Week’s Movie Night event focuses on Chinese media and art representation and aims to foster a discussion on the movie Lust, Caution (色戒), which is an espionage period film that won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2007. The event will take place on Feb 24, 5-8 PM, in Buttrick 102. The event will be composed of a 2-hour screening and we are open to any discussions that might follow.
