Ryan Selvaggio Cape Town, South Africa - Lavender Hill High School

Lavender Hill High School is a secondary school located in Cape Town, South Africa struggling with gangsterism, drugs, violence, and a high dropout rate and yet filled with hope. This summer, with support from the Ingram Scholarship Program, I had the opportunity to perform some community development and consulting work specifically in laying the foundation and facilitating the creation of a house system, a peer education program, an assessment of student needs, and teach a self-made leadership program at the school. Ideally, Lavender Hill will continue these programs and in the long run reduce the dropout rate and gangsterism in the local community.
