Dear student,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through our plans for the resumption of on-campus classes for fall. These plans include adjustments we are making to housing to follow the best public health practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We know many of you have questions and concerns. Several of you have requested more time to consider your options with regard to off-campus housing.

In response, we are extending the deadline for students to decline their off-campus housing authorization from the initial date of June 5 to five days following the public announcement of Vanderbilt’s plans for the fall semester. The university expects to make that announcement in the next few weeks.

If you have recently declined your off-campus authorization and would like to reconsider your decision, please email Alison.matarese@vanderbilt.edu.

We wanted to share some information about how we make decisions regarding on-campus housing assignments that will hopefully help you in making your decision.

The university is still making important decisions on which residence halls will be available for student assignment. Part of that decision process is understanding how many students we will need to accommodate on campus. We have a formula for predicting how many students will live off campus. However, this is an unprecedented situation that does not follow the typical model.

The remaining portion of the assignment process will take several weeks to complete and as a result, assignments for unassigned students will not be known until several weeks after the university’s plans for the fall semester are announced.
