As the November 5 general election approaches, it’s important to know what’s on the ballot and how the decisions made at the polls will impact our community and beyond. From local and state representatives to key referendums and amendments, voters will have the opportunity to influence important changes ahead. Here’s everything you need to know about the candidates and issues on the ballot so you can make informed choices on Election Day.
What’s On the Ballot?
Federal Election
This year’s election includes the presidential race, and your vote will help determine the next leaders of our nation. In addition to the presidency, Tennesseans will also elect a U.S. Senator to represent the state. Voters in Tennessee Congressional Districts 5, 6 and 7 will choose their representatives for Congress. Not sure which district you live in? You can find your district online. Review the sample ballot to see all federal candidates.
State Election
This election is also an opportunity to elect state representatives. Ten districts within Davidson County are voting for members of the State House of Representatives, while District 20 is electing a state senator. Find your state district and view the candidates on the sample ballot.
Local Election and Referendum
Local elections are critical for influencing your community. Residents of Belle Meade, Forest Hills and Goodlettsville will vote to elect city commissioners. The sample ballot is the best resource for reviewing all local candidates.
The Transit Improvement Program Referendum or “Choose How You Move” is also on the ballot for Davidson County residents. Voters can choose “for” or “against” the program to expand the priority sidewalk network and enhance public transportation. Visit transit.nashville.gov for more information and features of the proposed plan.
