Faculty-Led Travel (FLT) is an essential aspect of a Global Vanderbilt, and includes all travel to destinations outside of Davidson County, Tennessee led by Vanderbilt faculty for Vanderbilt students.

Yuanqi (Suzy) Wang

Yuanqi (Suzy) Wang

Associate Director for Faculty-Led Travel

Suzy Wang is the inaugural Associate Director for Faculty-Led Travel, a newly established unit within the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. In this role, Suzy provides guidance and resources to Vanderbilt branded faculty-led travel programs. She collaborates with undergraduate schools and faculty to design and develop high-quality, well-structured programs to promote global learning and intercultural engagement.

Suzy brings over 14 years of professional experiences in international education into her new role. Since joining Vanderbilt over a decade ago, Suzy has worked closely with faculty and students on their global endeavors in multiple capacities, and mostly recently as the Interim Associate Director for Study Abroad. A native of Henan, China, Suzy has first-hand appreciation of the transformative impact of global experiences, and she is deeply passionate about building intercultural competence through intentional design of program curriculum. Suzy is an IDI Qualified Administrator and an active member in the fields of international education and experiential learning. Besides her service on advisory boards and committees in professional organizations, Suzy is a reviewer for Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad, and the Journal of Comparative & International Higher Education. Suzy earned her B.A. from Shanghai International Studies University, an M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University, and is pursuing an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy.

Isabelle Crist

Isabelle Crist

Associate Director of Global Safety, Health, and Security

Isabelle Crist is Associate Director of Global Safety, Health, and Security. With over two decades of experience in the field of international education, Isabelle serves as a guide and mentor for undergraduate student travelers. As Associate Director, Isabelle provides pre-departure training and consultation on critical issues related to mental health and physical well-being. Isabelle partners with Vanderbilt Study Abroad and Immersion to ensure continuity of care for all students participating in study abroad or independent research or experiential learning travel.

Isabelle is an active and engaged member of The Forum of Education Abroad and Pulse: International Safety and Security Professionals in Higher Education. Isabelle is bi-lingual in French and English and holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt in Anthropology and Fine Art.

Erin Lesley Beeman

Erin Lesley Beeman

Coordinator for Global Safety and Health

Erin Lesley Beeman is Coordinator for Global Safety and Health. After working through undergrad as a professional chef and substitute teacher, Erin graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a BA in social and political philosophy in May 2019.

After graduation they began a career in the social work field working at a Nashville domestic violence shelter in crisis support services with a focus on domestic abuse, mental health, sexual violence, and substance abuse disorder intervention.  They became a member of the shelter management team and expanded their skill set to crisis intervention policy formation and training before joining the Vanderbilt VPUE team in November of 2021.

Erin maintains a “let’s talk about it” policy and is trained in crisis de-escalation, grounding techniques, personal and family safety planning, and controlled substance overdose intervention. They conducted trainings for local employers who wish to broaden their employees’ knowledge of relationships and sexual health, teach them to navigate crisis situations, or give them tools to support someone they know who may be experiencing a crisis.
