In this program, facilitated by CIEE, students enroll directly in University College London (UCL), located in the heart of London for a truly urban experience with remarkable cultural, historic, artistic, political, and intellectual offerings. UCL is one of the most prestigious institutions and is consistently listed among the top of the World University Rankings. The university offers a breadth and depth of courses, with excellent academics across all disciplines. Students live near campus in a residence hall or shared apartment. UCL has a selective application process and appeals to serious applicants only. Students applying to UCL are required to meet with the study abroad advisor for this program as a part of the application.

*Please note: there is a MANDATORY advising requirement for this program that must be completed before the application deadline*

Application Process:              

Students apply to one subject area at UCL and are expected to take 50% of their coursework in that area. GPA requirements vary by department, so please review UCL's Departmental Pages for more information.

There are three applications for this program as well as additional application materials:

  • Vanderbilt (GEO) study abroad application
  • CIEE application
  • University College Application (UCL) – application stays open for a month.
    • For the fall term, application opens in March
    • For the spring term, application opens in September
  • Personal Statement (CIEE and UCL personal statement are the same)
  • Letter of Recommendation (only for the UCL application)

Decision letters are released after the UCL application closes and can take up to 6 weeks to be sent to students.

The following academic units cannot accept study abroad students:

The following departments may have limited capacity for study abroad students.
