In her current role as a Law Fellow in Vanderbilt University’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Heather Perry supports the office by conducting legal research and advising the university on several different matters including student affairs and labor and employment matters, with a focus on nondiscrimination, disability accommodations, civil rights, student accountability, and Title IX matters. Heather’s background in education has been instrumental in developing university policies, advising the university, and helping Vanderbilt carry out its mission.
Heather received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia. She received her Juris Doctor from Belmont University College of Law, where she participated in Mock Trial and completed the Pro Bono Pledge.
Prior to joining Vanderbilt University’s Office of the General Counsel, Heather worked at Maury County Public Schools where she learned the complexities of K-12 education and completed significant policy work for the school district. She also worked at the Tennessee Office of the Attorney General’s Public Interest Division where she supported several attorneys in civil litigation matters. Heather also worked with Disability Rights Tennessee where she completed research regarding ADA matters and supported attorneys in civil litigation and institutional reform.
Heather is a member of the Nashville Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Heather is admitted to practice law in Tennessee.
In her free time, Heather enjoys watching UVA basketball, reading dystopian novels, listening to Taylor Swift, and spending time with her husband and Jack Russell Terrier, Max.
