  • Financial Aid Information
    • Information about financial aid for students at Vanderbilt University, including federal and other forms of financial aid and withdrawal procedures, is available from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships on the Vanderbilt University website at (http://www.vanderbilt.edu/financialaid/.)   • Student Record Privacy and FERPA

  • Crime Statistics, Security, & Fire Safety
    • Annual Security and Fire Safety Report: In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, the Tennessee College and University Security Information Act, and the Fire Safety Right-to-Know provisions of the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act, Vanderbilt University publishes an annual report to provide information on security-related services offered by the University. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information related to University-wide security and safety, including related policies, procedures, and crime statistics. The Report also describes fire safety systems, policies and procedures for on-campus student housing facilities, and residence hall fire statistics.
    • Additionally, in compliance with the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report sets forth information pertaining to the University’s policies and procedures regarding sexual assault, stalking, and dating and domestic violence, including information regarding making reports to law enforcement and to the University’s Title IX coordinator. The Report also contains information regarding prevention and awareness programs (including bystander intervention), confidentiality, disciplinary procedures, and resources for those impacted by sexual assault, stalking, and dating and domestic violence.
    • The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report can be found on the Vanderbilt University Police Department website at (https://publicsafety.vanderbilt.edu/annual-security-report) or a paper copy of the report may be obtained from the Vanderbilt University Police Department at 2800 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN 37212. The 2024 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report will be available by October 1, 2024.
    • Missing Student Notification Policy: In compliance with the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act, Vanderbilt University provides each student residing on campus the opportunity to designate a confidential contact to be notified by the University in the event that the University determines that the student is missing. In the case of non-emancipated students under the age of eighteen, the HEOA requires that a custodial parent or guardian be notified; however, an additional, confidential contact may also be specified.   • Copyright Infringement Policies and Sanctions/Acceptable Use Policy
    • Copyright Infringement Policies and Sanctions: Vanderbilt responds to allegations of copyright infringement in digital and online media in accordance with procedures required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Vanderbilt policy prohibits violations of copyright law by use of University networks, equipment, and facilities. Suspected student offenders are referred to Student Accountability, Community Standards and Academic Integrity, which investigates, and where appropriate, applies disciplinary sanctions consistent with University policies and regulations. Vanderbilt students who are granted access to the University’s IT systems, including computer centers or campus-wide internet services, are expected to ensure appropriate use of those systems. Vanderbilt’s information technology privileges and responsibilities are articulated in the University’s Student Computing Policy at (https://www.vanderbilt.edu/enrollmentbulletin/policies/student-computing-policy)/ and The Computing Privileges and Responsibilities Acceptable Use Policy at (www.vanderbilt.edu/info/computing-aup.).
    • Among other things, this policy prohibits violation of copyright laws, including illegal file sharing, the transportation of obscene materials across state lines, and unauthorized access to private information, whether obtained through direct “hacking” or by “social engineering” methods. University computers and data networks, including electronic mail systems, may not be used by students for commercial business purposes not authorized by the University or to harass another by threats, obscenities, or repeated unwanted emails. In addition to sanctions through University accountability proceedings, computing and data network privileges may be revoked in appropriate circumstances.
    • Vanderbilt students are informed that the unauthorized copying, performance, or distribution of materials protected by copyright law may subject individuals to civil and criminal penalties. The distribution of material through peer-to-peer file-sharing networks may constitute copyright infringement if undertaken without authorization of the copyright owner. Civil penalties for copyright infringement include fines of up to $30,000 per work infringed, or, in the case of willful infringement, $150,000 per work infringed. Criminal penalties for copyright infringement can be more severe and range, in the case of fines, from $5,000 to $250,000 per work infringed, and can include imprisonment of up to five years per offense depending on the facts of the case. Infringers may also be liable for attorney’s fees and court costs.

  • Protection of Minors
    • Protection of Minors: Vanderbilt believes strongly in educating individuals on best practices for keeping minors (defined as persons under the age 18) safe and the duty to report child maltreatment. All new incoming students are required to complete Protection of Minors online training and all students who are participating in student organizations, courses, or other Vanderbilt activities with minors, are required to be in compliance with the University’s Protection of Minors Policy (which may include individual annual training and criminal background clearances). Tennessee is a mandatory reporting state for child abuse, which means all suspicions of child abuse must be reported to the appropriate external agencies. Additionally, internal reporting to Vanderbilt includes not only suspicion of child abuse but any misconduct, safety concern, or protection of minors conduct code violation. The Protection of Minors Policy clarifies the reporting process for both internal and external reporting requirements at Vanderbilt.
    • The Protection of Minors Policy and resources include a detailed program handbook, individual compliance regulations, and steps for program registration in a central repository. The policy and other resources can be found on the Protection of Minors website in University Compliance Services.

    • Vanderbilt also prohibits all forms of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, and dating and domestic violence.     • Student Handbook: The Student Handbook is designed to acquaint students with the specifics of the standards expected of them as members of the university community, and therefore features information regarding policies and regulations, the student Honor Code, student accountability and community standards, residential life, student involvement, policies on alcohol and other drugs, and direct links to policies on sexual misconduct and discrimination.     • The University may establish and operate under guidelines and protocols to manage public health and other emergencies, including COVID-19. These guidelines and protocols will be communicated to students through other mechanisms and not through the Student Handbook. Students are expected to abide by any and all University guidelines and protocols to protect the University community. In some circumstances, these guidelines and protocols may supersede provisions in the Student Handbook.
