Chris Lowe

Title: Senior Associate General Counsel

As an experienced, flexible, and knowledgeable attorney Chris makes a positive impact for the university in business negotiations and transactions. With the perspective that people are the purpose of any transaction, Chris seeks to understand both parties’ interests in every proposed arrangement. He makes every effort to exercise judgment that accounts for the short and long terms, pursues innovation and compromise when deadlock threatens consensus, and respects the importance of the working relationships that take agreements from the page to reality.

Previously Chris served as operations counsel for a publicly-traded wellness company, navigating its business operations through pivotal transactions with commercial and non-profit partners.  He also was a Partner in the tax and antitrust section of a Nashville law firm, where he focused on tax, antitrust, intellectual property, and corporate concerns. Currently for the university, Chris works closely with the Office of Brand Engagement and Governance, Procurement, Administration, and the Office of the Provost.  He advises the university on academic arrangements, real estate transactions, construction agreements, and branding and trademark opportunities.  He also counsels the university on matters connected to its relationship between the Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Chris finds practicing law to be fascinating because it follows changes in society and its decision makers. He believes that the growth of Nashville has created unprecedented and exciting opportunities for the University. His work for Vanderbilt finds and straightens paths for the university to pursue those opportunities, and supports the pursuit of excellence within the university community.
