Undergraduate Writing Consultant Nominations Due by January 19

Nominate a student to be an undergraduate writing consultant. It just takes a minute, and you’ll help us identify candidates to join the Writing Studio’s staff as Undergraduate Writing Consultants for 2024-25.

We seek nominations of students of all majors and from diverse backgrounds. Ideal candidates are thoughtful academic writers with excellent interpersonal skills.

Nominate your students by Friday, January 19.

  • Nominated students will be invited to submit an application by Friday, January 26.
  • Those selected will start in August 2024, earning $10.50 per hour and benefiting from paid training and ongoing professional development.
  • Students may apply without a nomination, but receiving a faculty nomination leads many excellent candidates to apply who might not otherwise.

Submit a consultant nomination via our faculty nominations page.

Bring the Writing Studio to Your Classroom

Before you finalize your course calendar for Spring, take a moment to consider adding a Brief Introduction to the Writing Studio or an In-Class Workshop.

Brief Introductions to the Writing Studio

Writing Studio consultants are prepared to deliver ten-minute presentations on the essential details of our services. We know from feedback that bringing a consultant into the classroom is one of the most effective ways to encourage students to work with us on their writing.

Complete our In-Class Introduction to the Writing Studio form to request a visit.

In-Class Writing Workshops

Consider inviting a writing consultant to your class to lead a workshop on a specific element of academic writing. Standard workshops cover a variety of essential topics:

We can also work with you to develop a workshop tailored to your course’s specific needs. Past custom topics have included case studies, literature reviews, podcasts, op-eds, and more.

Complete our In-Class Writing Workshop Request form to start the process.

Writing Studio Resources for Instructors

If you teach with writing, the Writing Studio is here for you as a resource and a campus partner.

Add a Syllabus Statement about the Writing Studio

One of the easiest ways to let students know that you want them to make use of the Writing Studio is to include a supportive statement on your syllabus, on Brightspace, or on individual assignments. We invite you to copy the example below and paste it into your syllabus:

One-on-One Writing Support at the Writing Studio

In addition to meeting with me during office hours to discuss coursework, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the services at the Writing Studio; getting feedback benefits writers at all skill levels. Writing Studio consultants can offer a fresh perspective on any of your writing projects. For more information and to schedule an appointment, visit vanderbilt.edu/writing.

Writing Pedagogy Consultations

The Writing Studio’s Director, Associate Director, and Academic Support Coordinators are available to discuss writing pedagogy: writing course design, writing assignments, resources for student writing support, and more.

To schedule an appointment, please contact our Office Administrator by emailing writing.studio@vanderbilt.edu.

Visit the Writing Studio’s Faculty page for additional information and resources available for instructors.
