Dear Students,

We are reaching out to share important updates about the 2021-2022 academic year housing assignment process. We appreciate your patience as the university monitors the COVID-19 pandemic to determine what our housing will look like next year. Although we are still developing plans, we wanted to share that barring any unforeseen circumstances, we anticipate returning to traditional levels of housing occupancy, with a large majority of students residing on campus.

Given the evolving state of the pandemic, we are postponing the housing assignment process until late spring or early summer so that we can make specific decisions that we are certain will remain in place this fall. More information about the process will be sent later this semester.

RESIDENTIAL REQUIREMENT

As you know, we quickly adjusted our housing process in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet Vanderbilt University remains a residential campus for undergraduate students. The residential experience requirement, which is an integral part of a Vanderbilt education, will continue next year.

All undergraduate students are required to live on-campus unless there is insufficient space on campus.  Authorization to live off-campus is granted at the discretion of the Director of Housing Assignments when space is unavailable on campus or in special circumstances.

You should not commit yourself in any way to an off-campus property. Authorization to live off campus is granted one academic year at a time and authorization for the subsequent year is not guaranteed. Therefore, you should only sign a lease if and when you are granted 2021-2022 off-campus authorization. That process will take place as part of the housing assignment process.
