HIV Testing

TODAY February 11 from 2pm-4pm

The Commons Center

Join us as we partner with My House to offer rapid HIV Tests this semester!  My House provides a one stop shop Health & Wellness Community Center for Same Gender Loving Men of Color and Gay/Bisexual Men.

On Tuesday February 11th they will be offering confidential, rapid, finger stick testing at the Commons Center. Testing is with a certified HIV counselor, and takes about 20 minutes.


GBTQ+ Fraternity Affinity Group Interest Meeting

The GBTQ+ Fraternity Affinity Group provides an opportunity for students who identify as GBTQIA+ and are members of a campus fraternity to share experiences and find resources. Join us for conversation and fun!

Join us Wednesday, April 15 from 7-9pm in the Student Life Center Ballroom as we celebrate the achievements and contributions of LGBTQI and allied graduating students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) and student leaders at Vanderbilt University.

Even if you have never attended our events or been inside of the K.C. Potter Center, we invite you to celebrate with us. 

Lavender Celebration is a tradition that began in 2008 at Vanderbilt, held in addition to regular commencement activities. Its aim is to celebrate the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and allied graduating undergraduate, graduate, and professional students as well as faculty and staff. All members of the Vanderbilt community are welcome to join us for this special evening ceremony and community dinner.

Free, drop-in tutoring help sessions are open to all students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math courses. This drop-in tutoring service is made possible by the National Science Foundation, VU School of Engineering, and VU College of Arts and Science.

Need some writing help? Every Thursday this semester, you can stop by the K.C. Potter Center and meet with Writing Studio Consultant Erika Nelson. While there are walk-in appointments available, you can guarantee an appointment with Erika by making an appointment online.

Seeking Speak Out Panelists Deadline

We’re looking for LGBTQIA+ community members to participate in our Speak Out Panels. This is open to staff, faculty, and students.

Speak Out is presented in the format of a panel presentation for an academic class, residence hall community, or campus organization. LGBTQIA+ people share their personal stories about their identities and engage in an active question and answer session with the audience.

LGBT+ Early Insights Program | March 26 | NYC
Application Deadline: Thursday, February 20
Eligibility Requirement: undergraduate students graduating between December 2021 – June 2023 who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender

Application Details for Potential Participants
· After submitting their application, applicants will be asked to complete an additional video component via HireVue. They will receive a separate e-mail with information on how to complete this step within 48 hours of submitting your application. We encourage applicants to account for this step in their application timelines.
· Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled at a four year accredited institution and provide their resume with a current GPA.
· Applicants may apply to as many Early Insights Programs as they are eligible for and interested in, but can only be selected to attend one.
· All events will be held at our offices in New York City; participation is limited.
· Morgan Stanley will provide travel and hotel accommodations for selected applicants.


Nashville Public Library Gender Studies Archivist Internship

Fall 2020

Project Description:

The Special Collections division of the Nashville Public Library seeks an intern to assist with research on new projects on gender studies, spanning topics in LGBTQ history and women’s history. A qualified intern will assist staff with researching collections, developing materials, and planning future programming. The project may include assignments such as conducting research in archival collections and evaluating available sources; developing materials for an add-on module for civil-rights training; assisting with women’s history projects commemorating women’s suffrage; and suggesting ideas for future programming based on research.

Qualifications:

Applicants should be college students with an enthusiasm for history, gender studies and related subjects, with an interest in working with primary source historical materials. Excellent communications skills and the ability to work well with a diverse team are necessary. Knowledge of women’s or LGBTQ issues and history, and familiarity with gender studies, is desirable. Ideal candidates exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and the ability to work independently.

Position Type:

Unpaid, part-time internship; 8-12 hours per week (minimum of 100-150 hours) during weekdays, with additional hours possible if needed for credit; otherwise flexible scheduling.

Vanderbilt Lives Call for Submissions

Vanderbilt Lives, Vanderbilt’s undergraduate creative nonfiction journal, is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2020 issue. Submit your essay no later than March 9, 2020 at 11:59pm via http://bit.ly/vanderbiltlives

Accepted essays will be printed in both electronic and hardcopy versions of the journal. The editors will award editors’ prizes to the top three essays, with each award carrying a cash prize of $200.

The LGBTQ Victory Institute Congressional Internships

Application Deadline March 9th

The Victory Institute will bring outstanding LGBTQ college students to Washington, DC, for an 8-week intensive leadership program, including a Congressional internship with an LGBTQ-friendly member of Congress.  

The program includes a generous stipend, housing in DC, placement in a congressional internship and travel to/from Washington, as well as travel and registration to the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference in December 2020. 

The Victory Congressional Internship is open to current undergraduate students of all genders, orientations, abilities, races, and political affiliations, including people with majors other than political science.

Applications for this incredible paid summer internship opportunity are due by Monday, March 9, 2020!

The Metro Public Health Department’s Sexual Health Center provides confidential testing, treatment, and counseling services. This includes testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis C, and trichomoniasis. Additionally, the center now has a dedicated PrEP Clinic to offer pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prescriptions, testing, and counseling services to individuals at high-risk for exposure to HIV. There is a $10 fee per visit. Appointments can be made by calling 615-340-5647. The Sexual Health Center is located at Lentz Public Health Center (2500 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209)
