West End Neighborhood E-Newsletter [Vanderbilt University]

April 2018

Dear Vanderbilt community & friends:

With construction progressing at the West End Neighborhood site, this month proved to be an optimal time to engage the campus community for feedback on the project. On April 12, campus architects and administrators hosted a student input session at the Sarratt Center promenade that featured landscape design plans, building renderings and virtual reality simulations.

Up-to-date sketches of the West End Neighborhood were on display in the Sarratt Promenade April 12. (Steve Green/Vanderbilt University)

Obtaining community feedback continues to be an essential thread throughout the development of the project, as it helps the design team learn more about the preferences of the Vanderbilt community. At the input session, mock-ups and sketches were displayed and students were able to ask questions of project architects and Vanderbilt staff.

Parking Adjustments for 2018-19

Parking changes to the West End Neighborhood began in mid-December 2017. These closures are permanent.

The following updates are important to keep in mind when planning for next year:

  • As efforts continue, parking in the West End Neighborhood will be reduced further in December 2018. The alleys and parking lots behind all greek houses will be closed at the end of the fall semester.
  • Parking along Kensington Avenue, 24th Avenue and Vanderbilt Place will be open to all “F” permit holders.
  • To aid students during this time, Parking Services will continue to make five floors of the 25th Avenue Garage available to “F” permit holders. A recently installed Vandy Van stop supports increased student traffic in the area.
  • In addition, Parking Services will offer a half-year student “F” permit next academic year for those who would like to bring a car to campus during fall 2018 and leave it home spring semester 2019.
  • Online parking registration for 2018-19 will open to all eligible Vanderbilt University students beginning late July 2018.

To address these changes, the university is developing a comprehensive mobility and transportation strategy that will improve accessibility on campus and provide additional transportation options. The Vanderbilt community will continue to be updated as plans develop.
