Born and raised in Huntsville, AL, Madelyn Kloske is excited to be supporting Vanderbilt students and scholars not far from her stomping grounds. A lifelong language enthusiast, Madelyn studied Linguistics and Spanish for her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. Having thoroughly enjoyed taking a course on Second Language Acquisition, studying Bilingualism in a psycholinguistics lab, and volunteer teaching English to Hispanic adults in the community, she went on to pursue an MA in TESOL/Applied Linguistics at The University of Alabama. Her master’s thesis focused on discourse markers and instructed pragmatic competence. Before joining the ELC, Madelyn was a Fulbright English instructor at the Universidad de La Laguna on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife.
Madelyn brings to the ELC her personal experience as a language learner, her excitement for the process of language acquisition, and her empathy for individuals desiring to improve their academic communication skills. Fun facts about Madelyn include that she was a nationally competitive and NCAA Division I rower, is fiercely competitive as a language learner (currently with a 1200+ day Duolingo streak), and is a Swiftie (a Taylor Swift lyric was even quoted in her MA thesis).
