Over the 2021–22 academic year, EDI leadership developed a comprehensive strategic plan, with goals centered around six central areas of impact for the division.

- Create a new organizational chart and revisit the mission of EDI.
- Create two-year plans for the Office for EDI and the institution.
- Ensure that each identity center director develops a two-year strategic plan for their respective areas.
- Develop and integrate EDI into annual performance reviews.
- Establish key performance indicators for data collection in EDI.
- Belonging
- Develop and administer a survey on belonging.
- Expand the first-generation initiative.
- Cultivate identity initiatives, including:
- Deepen EDI connections into campus relationships.
- Empower students to articulate their goals to increase access, advocacy and opportunities with EDI administrators.
- Make reporting avenues, processes and protocols more transparent.
- Community Outreach and Engagement
- Pilot school adoption programs to extend the educational pipeline beyond K-12.
- Determine strategies to implement for increased community engagement.
- Access and Opportunity
- Invest in employees by expanding professional development opportunities.
- Provide student internships and mentorship opportunities.
- Build cocurricular experiences within EDI for Immersion Vanderbilt.
- Strengthen alumni relations for mentoring opportunities and engagement.
- Collaborative Partnerships
- Identify faculty affiliates in the academic units as EDI partners.
- Communications
- Establish outlets and forums to communicate EDI programs, events and capabilities.
- Improve the EDI website.
- Make EDI-related resources more visible.
Vice Chancellor Andre Churchwell and Associate Vice Chancellor Belinda 'Otukolo Saltiban are working with each vice chancellor and dean to develop individual strategic plans for each division, college and school, built upon the foundation of the Vanderbilt Way, which focuses on belonging, self-direction, continual growth and radical collaboration.
