Event Overview

AI Summer 2024 at the Data Science Institute (DSI) was a monthlong virtual workshop designed to immerse participants in the world of AI models and programming. This free event welcomed researchers, students, and the broader Vanderbilt community, providing a comprehensive introduction to AI model fundamentals, AI-assisted programming, and the intricacies of training and fine-tuning AI models.

Engaging Sessions and Diverse Participation

Throughout the four weeks, attendees engaged in a variety of sessions:

• Week 1: Introduction to AI models and prompt engineering.
• Week 2: AI-assisted programming for AI applications.
• Weeks 3 & 4: Training and fine-tuning AI models.

The workshop was conducted entirely via Zoom, ensuring accessibility for participants from various locations. This structure allowed a wider audience to benefit from the expertise shared during the sessions.

The AI Summer 2024 workshop saw robust participation, with a diverse group of attendees. Priority was given to researchers with specific research goals and preliminary data, students eager to join research projects, and individuals with a strong interest in deep learning and AI. To extend the workshop’s impact, recordings and resources were made available on our YouTube channel. This ensured that those who couldn’t attend live sessions could still access the valuable content.
