International E-Waste Disposal Day Monday, OCT. 14th 2024

EWasteDisposalDay

Coinciding with International E-Waste Disposal Day, invite all Vanderbilt students, faculty, and staff to safely dispose of their old electronics on Monday, OCT. 14th 2024 (8AM to 3PM), at two convenient drop-off locations on campus: VUIT Hill Center, next to the Commons and the Bryan Center Building. This initiative helps promote sustainability and is critical in safeguarding your personal and institutional cybersecurity.

Protect Yourself:
Keeping old devices around—whether in a drawer, a box or even actively using them—can expose you to significant cyber threats. Old hardware may not have the latest security updates, making it easier for hackers to target you.

By turning in your old devices at our E-Waste Disposal Day event, you are helping to mitigate these risks, enhancing your cybersecurity and that of our entire campus community. Additionally, you are vital in supporting the environment by ensuring these devices are appropriately recycled rather than ending up in a landfill.

Drop Off Locations:
To make this event as accessible and convenient as possible, we have designated two locations for drop-off based on the size of the electronics:

Bryan Center Building:
If you have small electronics, such as phones, tablets, or any items under the size of a laptop, you can drop them off here. This location provides easy access for those with smaller devices that must be safely disposed of.

Hill Center (Next to the Commons):
Please bring larger electronics, including laptops, desktop computers, monitors, and printers, to the Hill Center parking lot. This location is equipped to handle bulkier items and ensure they are appropriately collected for recycling and secure disposal.

Click HERE to see a list of examples of what we can accept. Over-sized items will need to be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at the address below if you have an item requiring additional consideration.

Please Note: Consulting with your manufacturer's instructions for removal of personal data is recommended but not required. Vanderbilt University, VUIT, the Office of Cybersecurity, and ER2 are NOT responsible for preemptive data removal before disposal.
