Nashville Free Poetry Library
At its best, poetry is an ongoing exchange, a gift passing freely from one mind to another. At The Free Nashville Poetry Library, it really IS a gift given—well, lent—freely.
The new light-filled library and reading room, housed in The Packing Plant at 507 Hagan Street, has a collection of poetry books, old and new, long-beloved and just-discovered. You can check out up to three to take home, or linger in the chairs there and read something new while the afternoon slides away. The space also doubles as a community center for local poets and writers, with a busy calendar of readings and open mics, as well as frequent “Writer’s Gym” nights where you can come and share a quiet, focused space with other writers.
Along with nonprofits like Southern Word and The Porch, the new Library is another testament to the richness of Nashville’s homegrown and communal literary scene, which is thriving and expanding off-Broadway and beyond university walls. Stop by sometime and have a look for yourself—you may find yourself lingering longer than you expected.
