Day of Discovery (Hillsboro cluster)
The Day of Discovery at Vanderbilt (DoDV) is open to 7th and 8th grade students at the following schools
- J. T. Moore Middle Prep
- Rose Park Magnet Math and Science Middle
- West End Middle Prep
Students at these schools travel to Vanderbilt University to our laboratory classroom once a week. Students meet from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. one school day per week and engage in inquiry based STEM learning co-taught by Ph.D. scientists.
Curriculum in the Vanderbilt Classroom
The DoDV STEM curriculum revolves around the expertise and interest of the instructors. Previous topics include:
- 3D CAD Modeling and Printing
- Data Science and Analysis
- Electronics
- Psychology and Neuroscience
- Chemistry
- Plant Science
- Light and Optics
- Civil and Structural Engineering
Campus Laboratory Tours and Visits
When possible, students will travel to Vanderbilt campus science labs and STEM facilities to meet world-renowned experts and trainees in cutting cut topics and hear more about their career path. Previous lab tours include:
- The Department of Cellular and Developmental Biology
- Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology
- The Wond’ry Innovation Center
- Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering
- The Department of Civil Engineering
- The Vanderbilt Cell Imaging Shared Resource

- Women Interested in Science and Engineering (VU-WISE)
- Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science
- Vanderbilt Eye Institute
