Using mass spectrometry to understand fundamental biochemical processes

Kevin Schey, Biochemistry

The focus of the Schey lab is on the development and application of mass spectrometry to understand fundamental biochemical processes in health and disease. Areas of technology development include: imaging mass spectrometry, native mass spectrometry, membrane protein analysis and proteomics. Areas of application include: diseases of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease, cataract and age-related macular degeneration. State-of-the-art instrumentation and methods, such as hydrogen-deuterium exchange MS, imaging mass spectrometry, native mass spectrometry, and crosslinking mass spectrometry are employed to examine protein-protein/lipid interactions, post-translational modifications, protein crosslinking, spatially-resolved proteomics/lipidomics and cell aging.
