Application and development of computational tools for novel enzyme design, precision medicine, and variant effect prediction

Abdullah Al Mamum, Meharry Medical College

Our research focuses on the application and development of cutting-edge computational tools to address critical challenges in cancer therapy, rare disease mechanisms, and enzyme design. Our primary focus is to develop precision therapeutics by targeting cancer and rare diseases, leveraging advanced molecular modeling techniques for key targets such as HER2, EGFR, ER-alpha, PIK3CA, and membrane proteins like Caveolin. We integrate artificial intelligence (AI), quantum mechanics, and classical mechanics-based methods to design novel enzymes and predict the pathogenicity of variants of unknown significance. By combining computational innovations with biological insights, our work advances the understanding of disease mechanisms and accelerates the discovery of precision therapeutics. We are enthusiastic about fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly with clinician-scientists, cell biologists, medicinal chemists, and experimentalists, to bridge the gap between computational predictions and real-world applications.
