The Facilities

Biomolecular NMR Facility

The Biomolecular NMR Facility is located at the heart of the Vanderbilt campus as part of the Stevenson Sciences complex. The facility currently operates four Bruker spectrometers: Two Avance AV-III 600, one Avance AV-III 800 and one Avance AV-III 900. All instruments are housed in a dedicated NMR building located at the center of campus.

Each spectrometer is fully equipped with hardware for modern multi-nuclear experiments including cryoprobes, gradients and the capability for multi-channel pulsing with deuterium decoupling. All systems with CRP are equipped with nitrogen liquefiers. SampleJets have been installed on the two 600 MHz spectrometers. Our recovery plant recovers He at > 90% so the ASCEND magnet will not be so dependent on helium supply and price fluctuations.

Small Molecular NMR Facility

The Small Molecular NMR Facility is located nearby in the Small Molecule NMR Vault adjacent to the Math Building and next to the Biomolecular Facility.

The facility is well equipped for small molecule structural analysis and provides walk on NMR access. The Small Molecule Facility NMR facility operates four instruments, one of them located in a satellite facility in the new research building MRB IV.

  • 400 MHz Bruker AV-I-400 spectrometer with sample changer (BACS 60)
  • 400 MHz Bruker Nanobay-400 spectrometer with sample changer (Xpresss), located in MRB IV
  • 500 MHz Bruker AV-III-500 spectrometer
  • 600 MHz Bruker AV-III-600 spectrometer with cryoprobe and LC-SPE accessory

Helium Re-Liquefier

Our recovery plant recovers He at > 90% from all 7 magnets (VUBNMR and SMF) so we are no longer dependent on helium supply and price fluctuations.
