Research Spotlight – Walter Chazin

Posted by on Friday, June 16, 2017 in News.

CSB Researcher Watler Chazin, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow Aaron Ehlinger, Ph.D., and colleagues have shown that an ancient primase polymerase – PrimPol – helps replicate DNA from cell to cell where there is a damage to DNA.

The study published in Nature Communications, demonstrate that PrimPol is recruited to reprime DNA synthesis through its interaction with the essential single-stranded DNA binding Replication Protein A (RPA).  The findings provide significant molecular insights into PrimPol’s role in restarting stalled replication forks.
