The following workshops are available through the Women’s Center:
The Body Image Basics workshop provides definitions of body image types, discusses what society tells us is the “ideal” body, and introduces participants to body attitudes on issues such as body positivity, body neutrality, and body acceptance, among other topics. Participants will leave the workshop with a more nuanced understanding of body image in today’s society and, we hope, a willingness to challenge internalized fatphobia. Request a Body Image Basics workshop. Questions? Contact the Women’s Center at womenctr@vanderbilt.edu. The Feminism 101 workshop offers some definitions of feminism, provides a timeline of feminism in the United States, and introduces participants to feminist perspectives on issues such as education, intersectionality, and reproductive rights, among other topics. The workshop is interactive and allows participants to assess their knowledge both before and after the session. Participants will leave the workshop with a more nuanced understanding of feminism and, we hope, a willingness to question their assumptions about feminism. Request a Feminism 101 workshop. Questions? Contact the Women’s Center at womenctr@vanderbilt.edu. The History of Women at Vanderbilt presentation explores women’s experiences at Vanderbilt from the university’s nineteenth-century beginnings to the present day. It considers both the inclusion women enjoyed and the exclusion they faced as students, faculty, and staff at Vanderbilt, which only began to admit women and men undergraduates in equal numbers in the 1980s. Questions? Contact the Women’s Center at womenctr@vanderbilt.edu The AAUW Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop provides college students with the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to negotiate their salaries and benefits when they enter the “real world” after Vanderbilt. This workshop can be altered to your specific field or organization’s interests. Request a Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop. Please note that this workshop requires 90 minutes. Questions? Please contact Rory Dicker at rory.dicker@vanderbilt.edu.
