Conrad: The idea of taking the necessary steps to insure having a tall
child is practicing individual eugenics, while attempting to create a society
of tall people is the practice of population eugenics (Site 4).
One sounds much more dangerous than the other, but, many anti-eugenics
supporters contend, these two forms of eugenics are too similar to allow one
and forbid the other.Â
In China, policies exist which restrict individual couples to
having a single child. This, in
addition to the tendency of the Chinese favoring boys over girls, has led many
couples to make sure that their child will be a boy. No laws exist to favor the male over the female, but the
attitudes of the Chinese combined with a law limiting couples to one child has
produced a monumental slide in the gender composition in favor of men (Site 4).
