Conductivity Measurements

The unit of conductance is siemens (S) or ohm ?. Often micro or 10-6 siemens are used, (mS). The larger the value of S, the greater the conductance, the greater the number of ions in the solution and the stronger the electrolyte.

PROCEDURE:

  1.      Prepare a solution of your unknown substance by weighing out 0.10 g of it and dissolving it in 100 mL of DI water.

  2.     Place about 80 mL of this solution into clean 150 mL beaker and take these to a conductivity meter.

  3.      Rinse the probe with DI water. Measure the conductivity  of the solution. Use 0-19,990 mS scale.
