Banking

A bank account is required to conduct most business transactions in the U.S. A checking account is necessary to pay bills, rent, and deposits for housing. A bank account will also help international students and scholars to begin a US credit history. A positive credit history is often required for securing loans and other services.

To open a checking account you will need to take the following items with you to the bank:

  1. Home address
  2. Student ID or Social Security Number
  3. Passport and I-20 or Social Security Number and driver’s license
