Vanderbilt University names two Keegan Traveling Fellows
This year’s pair of Keegan Fellows is particularly unique in that the Fellows selected unbeknownst to the committee are extremely close friends. Meeting the first week of their first year at Vanderbilt in 2011, the friends worked alongside one another in the dining hall and have since maintained friendship through involvement in their Catholic community and as Ingram Scholars. Though their interests are especially different, the friends have been blessed to watch each other grow in their particular passions over the past four years and have continued to have many meaningful discussion around various societal issues. Each Fellow is ecstatic for the other’s project and opportunity, even more so now that they are not competing for the same Fellowship.
Walker remarked: “It is truly an honor to be a fellow alongside Ryan, a friend in whom I not only regard with great respect for his hard work and critical thinking but also as a wonderful human being who I know will do wonders through his dedication to humanity through the education system.”
Selvaggio commented: "I could not be more thrilled to be a Fellow for this upcoming year alongside Caroline. Caroline and I have been there for each other through so many formative moments in our lives these last three years, and I cannot believe the humble opportunity we have to support one another for our next year of adventure. Caroline's passion and heart for end of life care and communities and everything she does are infectious and have inspired me and so many others; her heart and passion for service of others are going to guide her down a path to truly change the world."
