What is SpotCheck?
UCLA political science professor Lynn Vavreck and Vanderbilt political science professor John Geer have teamed up in 2016 to present SPOTCHECK—a weekly randomized experiment in which people rate campaign ads in real time.
Every week, 1,000 Americans complete the project. They are chosen to be representative of the general population. The ads they see are randomly assigned. Some of the ads are political and some are not, sometimes people see only one ad and sometimes they see two.
The latest experiment can be seen below. To see previous week’s experiments, visit the Ad Ratings section!

The blue lines present the real time ratings of the moments in the ad people liked as they were watching it. The more people like a moment the higher the blue line goes. The gold lines present the moments people disliked. The lower the line, the greater the number of people who didn’t like that particular moment in the ad.
