Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property practice area concerns laws pertaining to patents, copyrights, and trademarks. Through the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (CTTC), Vanderbilt licenses intellectual property created by faculty, staff, and students, and the General Counsel attorneys advise CTTC concerning the terms of transactions in which university IP is commercialized.

The Office also advises Vanderbilt administrators on the application of the university's "Policy on Technology and Literary and Artistic Works." We answer questions about the application of copyright laws to the university's teaching and research activities. And we provide legal advice concerning the registration and licensing of university trademarks and servicemarks.
