The Vanderbilt Program in Cinema & Media Arts and the Dean of Students office, in partnership with the historic Belcourt Theatre in Hillsboro Village, have developed an initiative to promote faculty-student conversations centered on foreign, independent, and classic films: FLiCX, or Faculty-Led interactive Cinematic eXplorations.
Students and the faculty discussion leader join FLiCX on Anchor Link, RSVP for a scheduled screening, and the Dean of Students office purchases tickets for the participants. The faculty member meets the students at the Belcourt, where they check in with the FLiCX administrator for the event. Following the film screening, the faculty member comments on the film and encourages students and other audience members to articulate their thoughts about what they have seen.
Faculty interested in being a discussion facilitator for a particular film may write to flicx@vanderbilt.edu. (Note that the initiative is in partnership with the Belcourt Theatre, so screenings are limited to films playing there.)
