The Dawning of a New Era
"The new history is coming; it is
not a dream,
though it does extend beyond men's imagination...
it's going to deprive them of their conceptual
orthopedics, beginning with the destruction
of their
enticement machine."
- Men fear losing their current power; therefore what motivation do they
have for writing in strong feminine roles?
- it's not that men necessarily seek to repress women but rather they
seek to hold themselves up and retain their current power. However in doing
so, their actions result in the repression of women
- "A woman without a body, dumb, blind, can't possibly be a good
fighter. She is reduced to being the servant of the militant male, his
shadow. We must kill the false woman who is preventing the live one from
breathing."
- the woman loses her body and becomes dumb and blind as a result of
male repression
- if our voices and stories are to be heard we must write them ourselves
- Cixous says the only men that have been sucessful in writing about
women are poets
